Broadway Sessions had a very sweet season premiere this last week as we welcomed cast members from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We danced Oompa Loompa-style, enjoyed heartfelt performances, and watched a couple 11 year old boys SING THEIR FACES OFF. Jackie Hoffman was unable to attend, but never fear- the cast celebrated her through dramatic readings of some of her finer TWEETS! Broadway Sessions celebrated it's season finale recently. Nobody panic! Broadway Sessions will be back weekly beginning on September 7th. But of course we had to blow the roof of the joint 1 more time before parting. So we called upon friends, Colton Ryan (Dear Evan Hansen), Kimber Elayne Sprawl (Beautiful), Lauren Elder (Side Show) and Matt DeAngelis (Waitress) to dazzle us 1 last time this summer. It's that time of year again. Shall we call it Musical Theatre Christmas? No less than 20 original musical theatre works will be wrapped and placed beneath audiences proverbial tree, as The New York Musical Festival gears up again. We here at Broadway Sessions got a sneak peek at some of the festivals hottest shows including The Body Politic, Generation Me, Miss Blanche Tells it All, Happily: The Musical, Cadaver Synod, Georama, The Demise, Night Tide, I Am, I Will, I Do, Camp Wanatachi: In Concert and more. Time really does fly, especially when you're having fun. And, let's be honest, we have a lot of fun at Broadway Sessions. So much so that nine years has flown by ever so quickly. And what better way to celebrate nine years of hurt special brand of musical theatre mania than with an "Inappropriate" Anniversary Show. We welcomed back a roster of Broadway Sessions favorites to share wildly inappropriate tunes and memories. The results were memorable, well, for most of our audience at least ;)

FLASH, BAM, ALA-KAZAM! Out of the orange colored sky came the 2017 graduates from top ranked theatre school, Syracuse University. Joining the grads we Syracuse alum Catherine Charlebois, Janalyn Saxer, Lauren Blackman and vocal sensation and Syracuse start up Range A Capella. Enjoy highlights here!

Florida is hot. Right? It's hot sand, hot sun...hot musical theatre talent? YOU BET!. We welcomed the FSU "'Noles" to Broadway Sessions recently to celebrate their tremendous theatre program. '17 grads took the stage alongside Broadway vets Heather Parcells, Harris Milgrim, Christiani Pitts, Michael Hunker, Jennifer Swiderski and Stephen Anthony! The results were, well…HOT! Florida, after all.

You can take the boy out of Utah, but can you ever take the Utah out of the boy? Who knows, but a couple weeks back at Broadway Sessions, we did learn that you can bring the Utah to the boy. Full disclosure: I, Ben Cameron, grew up in the great red state of Utah, just a mile or two from Brigham Young University. So, although you may not have known, I have known for years just how sensational the training is in the BYU Music/Dance/Theatre program. Training so goodie resulted in starry careers for alumni Paul Canaan (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde), Alicia Shumway (The King and I), Zach Hess (The Book of Mormon), Michael Milkanin (Kinky Boots), Becca Petersen (Bandstand) and more. Check them out in action alongside the extremely talented '17 graduating MDT class. 

That's right, it's the month we want. It's MAYYYYYY!!!! And we sprung into a spring with our All Open Mic celebration. Once a month we shine the spotlight on up and comers with songs and their hearts, and boy did they bring their A-GAME. The night featured rising star Larry Whitfield and returning starlets including Melissa Modifer, Julia Nightingale, JR Bruno and Brazilian ingenue Carol Baptista. We also saw several new faces who did NOT disappoint. Check out the beauty that blossomed here...

Cast members from A Bronx Tale boogied on down to Broadway Sessions on a recent Thursday night. Stars Ariana DeBose, Bradley Gibson, Christiani Pitts and Kirstin Tucker gave us some insight into the kind of talent that keeps the box office burning up over on Belmont Avenue. Cast members tested their Alan Menken musical knowledge and even got our audience up and dancing Bronx Tale-style. The evening also featured performances by Broadway vet JR Bruno and vocalist Lillian Andrea de Leon. Check out highlights here.

The talent floodgates have opened and the streets are drenched in the promise of stars to be… I'm speaking of course, about "Showcase"Season." That special time of year when the college kids with stars in their eyes make the transition to "just plain" star and strut their stuff in the big apple. We netted star-making Baldwin Wallace to strut their stuff at Sessions recently. The '17 grads shone brightly alongside BW alum pro's Patty Lohr (Kinky Boots), Zach Adkins (Anastasia) and super star Ciara Renee. Statistically speaking, it's safe to say that just about every Broadway show boasts cast members who graduated from Cincinnati University- College Conservatory of Music, or CCM. The school's legacy is woven deep into the fabric of the Broadway community. We took some time to shine a light on that legacy at Broadway Sessions recently. The '17 graduating class took the stage alongside alumni Jessica Hendy (Cats), Julian R. Decker (Sunset Boulevard), Sean Montgomery (Groundhog Day), Christine Cornish Smith (Cats) and Josh Daniel (Book of Mormon. Enjoy highlights here.

It's been said that you gotta have heart to move to The Big Apple and pursue your dreams on the Great White Way, and boy do these graduates of The Hartt School have it. See what we did there? We heartily welcomed the 2017 graduating class to New York alongside headliners and notable Hartt School alums, Kevin Duda, Douglas Lyons and Anthony Fett! We also had a special guest appearance from West End star, Jason Denton and rising star Amanda Nelson! Watching these grads take the stage at Broadway Sessions really warmed our hearts (ok we'll stop with the heart/Hartt jokes now.) Check it out now!

Sunday, Sondheim and showtunes galore were on the menu at Broadway Sessions recently as we welcomed cast members from the current hit revival of Sunday in the Park with George. Cast members Claybourne Elder, Liz McCartney, Julie Foldesi, Jennifer Sanchez and Max Chernin delighted the audience with Sondheim (Liz McCartney's one woman "Your Fault" from Into the Woods, Claybourne's revisit of Road Show and accompanying story of the night his parents met Sondheim and Jennifer Sanchez's acoustic take on "Sunday" were especially Sondheim-licious) and more.  Joining the cast in the Sondheim-ania, was 9 year old Radio City veteran and self described Sondheim maniac Finn Douglas who brought the crowd to it's feet with his pint size "Putting It Together". Rounding out the evening was singer/songwriter Melissa Modifer. Enjoy highlights here!

St. Louis is a city renowned for lots of things. The blues, BBQ, one iconic cling-clanging trolly and one particular theatre training powerhouse, Webster University. Webster boasts alum like Norbert Leo Butz, Hunter Bell, and Jerry Mitchell to name a jut a few. We recently welcomed the graduating class for the Gateway city to take the stage at Broadway Sessions. You love Broadway. I know you do. After all, you're here on BroadwayWorld. You love Broadway, and the chances are good that you love Andrew Lloyd Webber. Even if you're scoffing, chances are still good you love the 'Lord'. After all, no other composer has hit the high notes ALW has. Hit after hit, he's made some of contemporary musical theatre's most iconic moments and has four show currently on the boards. Well, I'm simply wild about the man and his music. We decided to celebrate ALW at Sessions recently we gathered a line up of Broadway big wigs from Great Comet, Lion King, Pippin, Les Mis and more. Check out Lauren Zakrin, Courtney Bassett, Jelani Remy, Andrew Mayer, Matt Rossell, Mike Schwitter and more loving up on some Lloyd Webber.

Oh how we love our Broadway stars. We love 'em, love 'em, love 'em! But once a month we say, enough with the big beautiful Broadway stars and we open the mic up to some of the most talented up and coming singers in town. And that's just what we did recently and we think you'll enjoy the results! Write these names down, you'll be hearing more from them, guaranteed.

We all know that February is Black History Month, but did we all take a moment to reflect and celebrate? Well we did just that, Broadway-style, at Sessions on February 23rd. Not only did we invite a starry roster of Broadway's best and brightest to share music representing the influence, importance and impact of African American legacy on Broadway, but we also paid homage to some Broadway trailblazers like Diahann Carroll, Ben Vereen, "Stokes" and more. We even challenged our audience to "name that African American Tony winner," which of course gave us the opportunity to bask in the glorious voices of Melba Moore, Hinton Battle, Heather Headley, Ted Ross, Jennifer Holiday and many more. Nothing could be more fitting the day after the Oscar's than celebrating our recent evening with the stars of Cirque Du Soleil's Paramour. Paramour stars Ruby Lewis, Ryan Vona, Bret Shuford, Sheridan Mouawad, Nick Cartell and Katrina Cunningham dazzled like movie land's gilded statue. Add to the starry mix, Elf's Arthur Ross, vocalist Shakiera Sarai and pint-sized diva Isabella Koster, and we may as well have rolled out the red carpet. Enjoy this Oscar worthy performances from the star's of Broadway's Hollywood themed musical/acrobatic hybrid.

The Broadway community is nothing if not a family. I was honored recently to welcome my family, my  #WAMFAM to Broadway Sessions. WAM= Whole Artist Management. Spearheaded by Rich Martino and Mike Cruz, WAM boasts a talented and diverse roster which brought us performers from Kinky Boots, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bridges of Madison County, Bullets Over Broadway, Great Comet, Avenue Q, A Christmas Story, Wicked, Rock of Ages, Three Penny Opera, The Color Purple and more. And they sure did put the WAM in WAM BAM THANK YOU, um, BROADWAY. 

BROADWAY SESSIONS is described as an evening of musical performances, games and open mic featuring a new Broadway guest each week. The show is created and hosted by Ben Cameron (Bway Wicked, Aida and Footloose) and features musical director Joshua Stephen Kartes on piano. 

It seems like just yesterday that Broadway Con was all the rage here in NYC. Thousands of theatre fans descended on the  Big Apple to bask in all things Broadway. We invited these fans to celebrate the weekend with an unofficial closing night ALL OPEN MIC PARTY! Friends who had never sung on stage before drank down some courage and took the stage, talent we hadn't had the opportunity to meet before dazzled us and some old friends showed up to show 'em how we do it here in NYC. The result is beautiful. Check out these new friends from around the country and across the globe. 

We did it. We survived another holiday season and we're smack dab in the reality of 2017. That means a lot of things, but it also means that Broadway Sessions is BACK! And what better way to hit the ground running than with the cast of Great Comet! Enjoy performances by Denee Benton, Mary Page Nance, Nick Choksi, Blaine Krauss, Lauren Zakrin, Billy Kiessling, Heath Saunders, Andrew Mayer, Pearl Rhein, Brad Giovanine. We here at Broadway Sessions went all out to celebrate this holiday season with our annual All Star Holiday Show Spectacular. Be prepared for kids, puppets, balloons, famous drag queens and so much more. Starring Paige Davis (Chicago), Jinkx Monsoon and Alaska (RuPaul's Drag Race), Frankie James Grande (Rock of Ages), Charl Brown (Motown), Betsy Struxness (Hamilton), Adrianna Hicks (The Color Purple), Leslie Becker (Amazing Grace), Aaron Young (Fiddler on the Roof), Bryan Fenkart (Memphis, Nerds), Gaelen Gilliland (Honeymoon in Vegas), Adinah Alexander (Kinky Boots), Jelani Remy (The Lion King), Matthew Marks (Book of Mormon), Molly Tynes (Pippin), Nathan Lucrezio (Aladdin), Devin Ilaw (Les Mis), Zurin Villanueva and CK Edwards (Shuffle Along) the kids from Matilda, Imari Hardon and the cast of Avenue Q. And of course, our signature 12 Days of Christmas!

The night was 'sweet' indeed recently as Broadway Sessions welcomed cast members from The New Group's hit revival of Sweet Charity. Cast members Nikka Graff Lanzarone, Joel Perez, Donald Jones Jr., James Brown III and Cody Williams performed, told stories and delighted the audience. The evening also featured performance by vocalist Leeanna Rubin. Enjoy highlights here!
