The Mechanicals Theater Company is thrilled to announce a lavish production of William Shakespeare’s classic Twelfth Night, running October 20th through November 13th at the storied Flea Theater. Set in the decadent 1920s, The Mechanicals’ vision of Twelfth Night combines the grace and style of The Great Gatsby with the verve and spontaneity of speakeasy jazz halls, featuring original music and choreography. Twelfth Night tells a tale of class struggle, conflicted identity, and the limits of love. The play centers on the twins Viola and Sebastian, who are separated in a violent shipwreck. Viola, disguised as a man, falls in love with Duke Orsino, who in turn loves Countess Olivia. Hijinks famously ensue as Viola navigates her way in this strange new world. The cast includes Soma Okoye as Viola, Alejandro Oliva (Netflix's High Heat) as Duke Orsino, and Ruthellen Cheney as Olivia. Additional cast includes Eric Ryan Swanson as Malvolio, Joshua Balan as Sebastian, Armand Lane as Sir Toby Belch, Mildred Gil as Antonia, Sam Parrott as Sir Andrew Aguecheek, Imani Youngblood as Feste, Libby Barnard as Maria, Joe Bowen as Fabian and Smitha Ram, Alessandra Migliaccio, Ryan Bobila, Brandy Ochoa, John Chan, Jon Posen, and Cara Jaye in various roles. The creative team includes Alexis Confer (Director), Lunie Jules (Assistant Director), Ruthellen Cheney (Artistic Producer), Heidi Day Wenzel (Scenic Design), Kevin Anderson (Master Carpenter), Jeremy Rafal (Original Score Composer), Nicholas Lovalvo and Sabrina Lobner (Co-Choreographers), Brynne O’Rourke (Costume Design), Cara Kienitz (Production Stage Manager), Sam Parrott (Text Coach), and Matthew Hogenmiller (Marketing Director).
Executive Produced by Alexis Confer; Produced by Ruthellen Cheney and The Mechanicals Producer Council.
