We talk a lot about the "American Dream," but what about the American nightmare? Playwright Manuel Ortiz Ossandon re-imagines Caldern de la Barca's "Life is a Dream" and swaps out Segismundo's tower for Juan's tiny New York City apartment, where Juan descends into a chaotic spiral of dream sequences that make him face his deepest fears about being a queer, Latin immigrant in the United States. This dark yet absurd ride forces us to confront how often our illusions go head to head with our realities and how we can never be quite sure which has occupied our minds.
Jake Ryan Lozano stars as Juan, with Sebastian Arroyo, Marlon Quijije, Felipe Galganni, Devin White, and Siobhan Brandman completing the cast. Miguel Valderrama (lighting), Maria Luisa Portuondo Vila (set), Deby Kaufmann (sound), and Cole McCarty (costumes) are the design team that will bring the visual dream world to life. Manuel Ortiz and Rachel Shuey will direct.
