Surfside Players announces the Broadway Musical
LA CAGE AUX FOLLES
plus our eleventh annual
ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW
and Auditions for
SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR
Our biggest musical of the season opens in two weeks! Presenting LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, the 1984 Tony winner for Best Musical, with book by Harvey Fierstein and music by Jerry Herman, based on the farce by Jean Poiret (which also inspired the Robin Williams / Nathan Lane movie The Birdcage). Transvestite nightclub owner Georges and performer Albin, two men partnered for better or worse, get a bit of both when Georges’ son is engaged to the daughter of a right-wing politician. Georges agrees to masquerade as “normal” when meeting the family of the bride-to-be, but Albin has other plans…

In the meantime, don’t forget, Surfside’s eleventh annual ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW opens tonight! Surfside ushers in the Halloween season with the notorious rock-and-roll musical tribute to 1950s sci-fi/horror B-movies, directed by Nick Henn. Your enjoyment of this delightfully skewed movie will be amplified by a shadow cast of highly trained, costumed hecklers guaranteed to thrill you, chill you, AND... fulfill you.
Performance nights are Fridays and Saturdays, October 19 - 27, 2012, at 11:59pm. Tickets are $10 and are available ONLY at the door, first come first serve – show up early because the show is often packed! Prop bags are for sale for $3, and we welcome you to come in costume.
CAUTION: Mature Audiences Only. Contains strong language and adult themes, and the movie is rated R for violence and sexual situations. Presented by special arrangement with Criterion Pictures.
November 11 – 12 (Sunday and Monday, 7:00 pm) are AUDITIONS for SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR, by Bernard Slade. This popular romantic comedy-drama was adapted into a 1978 film starring Ellen Burstyn and Alan Alda. We need one man and one woman to portray Doris and George, two people married to others who have an illicit rendezvous once a year. Twenty-five years of manners and morals are hilariously and touchingly played out by the lovers, who discuss the births, deaths, marital problems, and social changes affecting their lives, and develop an emotional intimacy deeper than what one would expect between two people meeting for a clandestine relationship just once a year.
Performance dates are January 11 – 27 (Fri/Sat 8:00 pm, Sun 2:00 pm). Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Directed by Janet Rubin. Presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. (
www.samuelfrench.com).
