Chelsea Players will be holding auditions for its spring production,
PLAY IT AGAIN, SAM on Monday, March 11 and Wednesday, March 13 at 7 pm
in the United Congregational Church hall, 87 Broadway across from City
Hall in Norwich. PLAY IT AGAIN, SAM is a romantic comedy written by
Woody Allen that was made into a very successful movie starring Woody
himself with Diane Keaton. In the play, Allen Felix (the Woody Allen
character) is a journalist who writes about film. He's, frankly, a
flop with women: his wife has just left him. Fortunately, Allen has
an active imagination, and gets advice from his cinematic hero,
Humphrey Bogart on how to deal with women. In addition, his two best
friends, Dick and Linda are doing everything in his power to help him
meet women.
There are three large roles in the play, Allen, Dick and Linda, who
must be approximately the same age, but that could vary from late
twenties to about fifty. There are three medium sized parts, two
female parts, ages mid twenties to fifty, and Bogey, any age Bogey,
with trench coat and fedora. And there are five small female parts
for ages sixteen to forty. Though these parts are small, they are
crucial and rehearsals will be flexible to best accommodate those
characters. Auditions will be readings from the script and are open
to all. The performance dates will be May 17, 18, 24 and 25.
I will also need some backstage help. I would like to get either an
assistant director or stage manager (or both), a person to run the
light board, a person to assist with props and a person to assist with
sound.
If anyone is interested in doing something backstage, please reply to
this email or call me at
860-887-7289. Likewise, if you have any
questions about auditions or would like any further information,
please do the same.
Hope to see you at auditions,
Ken Lamothe,
director
