COMMUNITY CAST NEEDED FOR
NEW CORCADORCA PRODUCTION
The renowned theatre company has issued a call out for people of all ages around the Cobh area to be in the community cast and/or take part in some free workshops, led by artist Rachel Doolin, to create a visual spectacle for the show. They are especially interested in artists, actors and makers from the Cobh area, but the call out also extends to those who are up for the commute! The community cast is completely voluntary and no acting or artist experience is required. Large numbers are needed for this one, and the production team are going to need a lot of help to make it happen.
Anyone interested in these opportunities for involvement in a professional theatre production is invited to come along to an open meeting at the Commodore Hotel, Cobh, County Cork, next Wednesday 15th March, at 7.30pm, to learn more from Director Pat Kiernan and Artist Rachel Doolin. Corcadorca have been transforming Cork since 1991 with shows such as'A Midsummer Night's Dream' in Fitzgerald Park and Fota Gardens, 'The Trial of Jesus' on Patrick's Hill, and Woyzeck at Ireland’s Naval Base in Haulbowline.
Established in 1991, multi award-winning Corcadorca is one of the country’s foremost theatre companies. In 2016, they celebrated a successful 25 years in production. Throughout their years, Corcadorcahas pioneered the art of theatre performance in unusual venues and has carved out a unique place for itself in Irish theatre.
Based in Cork City, amongst the most memorable site specific productions are: The Trial of Jesus on Patrick’s Hill, A Midsummer Nights Dream in Fitzgerald’s Park, the multi-stage The Merchant of Venice, Woyzeck at Ireland’s Naval Base in Haulbowline, and more recently – The Same at the old Cork prison. Corcadorca shows can sell out within days. They’ve performed to 2,500 in one night for The Trial of Jesus and to over 6,000 for the run of The Tempest. From the epic to the intimate, their shows are popular with a hugely diverse audience.
2016’s significant anniversary saw Corcadorca stage their biggest site-specific production since 2008; Sacrifice at Easter by Pat McCabe at Elizabeth Fort on Barrack Street, as part of the Cork Midsummer Festival. Corcadorca also commissioned Enda Walsh to write new work to celebrate their 25th Anniversary. The Same which Corcadorca staged site specifically, at the old Cork prison on Rathmore Road, came to a close earlier this month following a hugely successful sold out run.
