German cabaret legend Ute Lemper, famed for wowing audiences with her captivating interpretation of works by Kurt Weill, Marlene Dietrich and Edith Piaf, returns to Arts Centre Melbourne to perform her much-loved cabaret repertoire alongside a special song cycle of love poems by acclaimed Latin poet Pablo Neruda.
Celebrated for her performances of luminary works by Berthold Brecht, the French Chanson Book and poems of Charles Bukowski, Lemper collaborated with Argentinian bandoneonist Marcelo Nisinman to create the delicate and beautiful song cycle, performing them in Spanish, French and English.
She has performed in some of the world's most celebrated concert halls with the best symphony orchestras from New York to Buenos Aires to Barcelona. In addition to her original recordings from the likes of Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Philip Glass and Nick Cave, she was honoured with the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for creating the part of Velma Kelly in the West End production of Chicago.
